GASTROGARD® (omeprazole) Oral Paste for Equine Ulcers
It is a veterinary medicine used for the treatment of gastric ulcers in horses and foals. It contains omeprazole, which reduces the production of stomach acid and gives gastric ulcers the opportunity to heal.
GASTROGARD comes as a once-daily oral paste in a prefilled syringe, with the dose calibrated according to the horse’s body weight. Its specialised formulation helps protect omeprazole as it passes through the acidic stomach environment, allowing absorption in the small intestine.
Boehringer Ingelheim reports that GASTROGARD has been shown to heal or significantly improve gastric ulcers in up to 99% of treated horses. It is intended for horses and foals 4 weeks of age and older.

The dosage of GASTROGARD is based on the horse’s body weight and the intended use. For treatment of gastric ulcers, the manufacturer specifies 4 mg/kg of omeprazole once daily. A veterinarian should determine the appropriate treatment for the individual horse.
